In 1948, Clifford and Alfred Froh purchased the County Infirmary
in Sturgis, Michigan and decided to call it the Froh Brothers
Homestead. This non-profit corporation, which was open
to all faiths, welcomed its first resident in 1953. By 1965
they moved into a new 70-bed facility in Sturgis and added 48
more beds in the Froh
Community Home Nursing Center in 1980. In 1986 they
added The Villa (Assisted
Living) and The
Manor (HUD Housing).
It was in 1986 that the Froh Community Home became Thurston
Woods Village, a
retirement community consisting of a 118-unit bed nursing center,
a 90-bed home for the aged and a 33-unit apartment complex (subsidized).
Today, Thurston Woods Village continues as a Mennonite-affiliated,
not-for-profit corporation.
As we continue to meet the needs of the community. Thurston
Woods Village has grown to assist active seniors with
our new independent apartments and homes. Instead of the responsibility
of home maintenance, The
Gables Apartments and The
Village Homes are designed specifically for the independent,
active senior who would rather travel, take a stroll on campus,
go to the park for a picnic, or get together with friends for
an afternoon adventure. It's a great place to explore new interests
and meet new people! MORE...
